EsseErre
Winery in Castagnole Monferrato
“Our strength is that we have no competitors nearby, but only Teachers!” – Edoardo Rossi
A project born from three former university friends who imagine their future in an old farm established in the early 1900s, dedicated to the production of classic wines of the area, located in Castagnole di Monferrato not far from the square in the center of the town.
This is how the adventure of Edoardo Rossi, Simone Serra and Giulia Montina began, who took over the company and founded EsseErre: a winery that has chosen to bet everything on Ruchè and on the vines already present, Grignolino and Barbera.
EsseErre is the smallest and youngest reality in Monferrato, but their only Ruchè label has already been able to stand out in their first 2020 vintage.
The Ruchè by Esse Erre is the result of a selection of Ruchè grapes belonging to four different vineyards, each with a different exposure.
Vigneto Vittorio and Vigneto Crosio – and the vineyards located on the hills called: Sant’Eufemia and Dorati. Then a processing in purity, vinified in steel and bottled in spring, to have a young Ruchè, ready to drink and versatile, which can be combined with various typical dishes of Monferrato and beyond.
The result is a ruby-colored Ruchè with a marked scent of roses and spices, the acidity tends to remain low, while the tannin is more pronounced on the palate with a sweet note.
Environment and tradition are very important factors for the three young people, who choose to avoid herbicides to fight weeds, as well as to try, where possible, to carry on the most authentic values of a peasant territory.
The surrounding hills boast an unusual biodiversity, where old plantations of hazelnuts coexist with truffle fields and cherry trees, in addition to Ruchè, Barbera and Grignolino, the history of Monferrato, but also other younger vines, such as Slarina and Riesling and Viognier.
Here, the Ruchè thrives serenely and offers good prospects to three young people confident in the future and in the original vine of Castagnole Monferrato.
